Blacktown Hospital

Blacktown Hospital Redevelopment was a huge step forward for healthcare in the growing Western Sydney Local Health District.

Acculine supplied our signature bamboo-based handrails to Blacktown Hospital Redevelopment project in partnership with Jacobs architects and Laing O’Rourke Construction. What began as a trial of different handrail alternatives to timber, became the precursor to Nature’s Steel. Bamboo showed remarkable promise both in the field of durability and sustainability and this hospital, completed in 2018, was ahead of its time in every respect.
This product has been further developed by the Nature’s Steel team, into the all-new NS40 handrail, with both durability and sustainability as our core guiding principles.

This project sets a benchmark for the recently launched 2023 NSW Health Design Guidelines, part 3.7, which emphasizes ‘Design for sustainability’ as one of it’s core pillars.

A huge thanks to all the stakeholders involved in helping preserve our precious native forests from logging and transition to a more sustainable, renewable and durable resource, moving us further towards our goal of preserving 2030m3 of native Australian forests by 2030.
