Why Nature's Steel?
Durability
Durability is in our DNA. Every new product we develop we ask - will this last longer? Will this require less maintenance? Our Nature's Steel material boasts an impressive Janka hardness rating of 15.8kN, exceeding by more than 3x the durability of traditional hardwood timbers such as Victorian Ash and Tasmanian Oak, making it a truly unique natural material.
Environmental Sustainability
Products that last longer, are highly renewable, biodegradeable and have high carbon-sequestration are the perfect mix for sustainability. Bamboo, the heart of Nature's Steel is the fastest growing material on earth, making it a rapidly renewable alternative to slow-growing hardwood timbers. Harvesting bamboo shoots does not harm the mother plant, unlike tree harvesting. With the Victorian Government's ban to all logging of native forests, the demand for sustainable alternatives like Nature's Steel are set to rise.
Appearance
Discover the perfect blend of sustainable materials and captivating aesthetics with Nature's Steel. Our Nature's Steel material has a unique natural grain, giving the look, feel and timeless appeal of natural timber, both today and for years to come. It can be stained and lacquered to enhance the appearance and to create a stunning focal point in hospital interiors.
Viability
Amidst logging bans on native forests, supply chain issues and cost escalation are becoming real concerns. Traditional hardwoods can take up to 35 years to mature, leading to potential constraints and delays. Bamboo reaches maturity in just 3-5 years, making it a viable, cost-effective alternative.

FAQ's
Not only is Nature’s Steel much more durable than timber, but it is also cost-effective. The actual Nature’s Steel material is a very similar price per lineal metre to timbers such as Victorian Ash or Tasmanian Oak. The stainless steel components used in Nature’s Steel products are very similar in price to stainless steel components used in other timber systems. The impacts of logging bans in Australia are expected to make Nature’s Steel an even more viable option in the future, as it is made from rapidly renewable bamboo.
Similar to timbers used in handrail and crashrail systems, the Nature’s Steel material isn’t fire tested for each specific application because currently timber handrails are exempt from a Group fire rating under clause C1.10(c)(iv) of the NCC.
The leadtime depends on the specific profile, colour and quantity of material required, but generally our leadtime is no longer than 10 weeks, even for large project orders. Nature’s Steel hold stock of common profiles such as NSH-40 to provide quick turnaround to our clients.
Nature’s Steel material is made from compressed, strand woven bamboo that is pigmented in the manufacture process before it is compressed, making it coloured throughout the material, so that even if you do dent it (which it is virtually impossible to) it will still show the same colour underneat.
